Finding out about meditation and its benefits is like opening the proverbial Pandora’s Box. You hear words such as “third eye’ and ‘chakras’ and its just a matter of time before you start to think that maybe meditation isn’t for you. Fortunately, guided chakra meditation means you don’t need to know all the technical aspects of the practice. All you need to do is follow instructions and you will be on your way to unlocking better health, sleep and overall happiness and productivity. It does however help to know about your 7 chakras even at a basic level.
What Are Chakras
The simplest way to explain chakras is these are centers of energy located throughout your body. Everyone feels these centers but only a few actually know or understand them. These centers of energy are responsible for how you interact with the world around you and are strongly linked to your feelings and emotions.
Apart from feelings, chakras are also responsible for health. Activating certain chakras may reduce blood sugar, for example, or help manage various other diseases.
Feeling happy, intuitive, love and so on are simply your chakras at work. Chakra meditation is simply about creating balance throughout the seven chakras to promote your physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health.
Root Chakra: is located in the tailbone. It is responsible for your feelings of comfort or being present. If you are constantly feeling insecure, scared or nervous, the culprit is the root chakra.
Sacral Chakra: is located just below the belly button. This chakra is responsible for your sexuality and feelings. If you have doubts about your sexual expression or have issues with passion and intimacy, the issue may be pinned down to this chakra.
Solar Plexus Chakra: is located between the rib cage. This chakra is responsible for your sense of self in relation to confidence, self esteem and having charge over your life.
Heart Chakra: is located right in the chest, and as you might have already guessed, is responsible for feelings of love. Expressions of friendliness, compassion, social interaction and openness to others can be tracked back to the heart chakra.
Throat Chakra: is located in the throat and carries creativity and self expression. Artists and other creatives simply have an ‘open’ throat chakra.
Third Eye Chakra: is located smack in the middle for the forehead and is often misunderstood. This chakra is responsible for mystical and psychic aspects. It also helps with powers of discernment, observation and intelligence.
Crown Chakra: is at the top of the head. This chakra is responsible for a sense of belonging to the world and being one with it rather than separate from it. It is also the gateway to the ‘higher self’ and is also connected to spirituality.
It helps to be aware of what chakras are, where they are located and what they do to benefit from meditation relaxation and the health benefits that it comes with. Guided meditation makes it easier to ‘do’ rather than ‘think’ or ‘know’.
